What it all costs
The cost of a post-secondary education is steadily increasing. Banks and other financial institutions will tell you that you will need to save approximately $25,000 a year for your studies. For most people, this hefty amount is rather intimidating! Some students give up the dream of furthering their education, believing there is no hope, given their family’s financial position. Yet, while education is expensive, it is an invaluable investment that almost certainly will pay off with a lifetime of higher wages and better job opportunities than if you merely have a high school diploma. Here is a rough estimate of basic student costs: Living at Home Tuition $3,500 to $11,000 (College-University*) *Tuition ranges from $7000 - $12000 Books $1,000 to $1,500 (depends entirely on your program) Personal Costs $1,000 to $3,000 (laundry, transportation, social, etc.) --------------------- $ 5,500 to $15,500 Living in Residence Room with Meal Plan $6,500 to $11,000 (campus residence) Tuition $3,500 to $11,000 (College-University) Books $1,000 to $1,500 (depends entirely on your program) Personal Costs $1,000 to $3,000 (laundry, transportation, social, etc.) --------------------- $ 12,000 to $26,500 Notice that by attending a “hometown” College or University you can save almost half of the costs quoted above! Living separately from your family, or going to a specialized school far away can be very expensive.
